Layna was adopted March 13, 2021!
When Layna arrived at Devore Shelter in late July of 2020, it was clear she’d suffered serious neglect. She, along with many other kitties and a few dogs, had been rescued from a hoarding situation by animal control. The shelter estimated her age to be 15 years old. Her body indicated she’d seen better times and happier days in her distant past. Her coat was matted and dirty. She was emaciated. Yet, despite her poor condition, after she was rescued and upon arrival in her new foster home, she clearly craved attention and affection. She also had quite a hearty appetite.
Despite appearances, a vet exam affirmed she was in overall good health. He also re-estimated her age to be 11 years old. So yes, she is a senior lady – but she also has many wonderful years ahead of her and we are determined they be her happiest ones yet.
While it’s taken Layna some time to develop trust with her foster family, she has done so. It’s understandable she was wary of people since humans have let her down in the past. Once she understood her foster family cared about her well being and only sought to find ways to make her happy, she warmed to them. She shows her love and affection with nose nudges, snuggles and draping herself across any available lap.
Layna has an adorable face and she’ll melt your heart when she purrs contentedly, all the while with her tongue sticking out. She would do best in a quiet and low activity home, preferably without young children and dogs. She does get along well with other cats if they are friendly to her in turn.
The absolute love Layna gives and her happiness with simple things like a soft blanket and wholesome food are endearing. If you give her a chance, don’t be surprised if you fall in love with her quickly. This adorable senior girl will make your days brighter with her love of life and her cute face.
