Lamar was adopted Thursday, October 26, 2023!
Lamar entered Devore Animal Shelter in late June 2023, looking pretty beat up and very rough around the edges. Shelter staff estimated him to be around six years old, and yet, despite his world-weary appearance, this good-natured sweetheart responded to attention and affection with a heartbreaking eagerness. Clearly, he knew love and affection at some point in his life before he was left on the streets to fend for himself.
Every summer, the intake number at the shelter jumps high, and so does the spread of kitty colds. Unfortunately, Lamar caught it while awaiting someone to come for him, so when Kitty Devore Rescue finally sprung him, his foster mom needed to nurse him back to health. Lamar did test positive for FIV, but he’s very healthy and strong and with care and a good diet, we know he has many healthy years ahead of him. His teeth weren’t in the best shape and he needed a few extractions so he underwent some dental work, too. However, when he recovered, he thanked her heartily and often. Lamar, we discovered, is quite the conversationalist! He loves to greet visitors and chat about anything on his mind! He’ll shadow you everywhere. But, most of all, this wonderful guy enjoys napping, and even more so if he can catch some Z’s alongside his human companions. Maybe the deprivation he experienced while on the streets thwarts his pickiness, but when it comes to eating, Lamar‘s a hearty eater and gobbles down all types of pâtés (especially the juicy ones) kibble, too. He’s happy to chow down with other cats and won’t steal their food, but he expects the same respect! We encourage interested adopters to invest in a kitty brush because nothing sends Lamar to the heavens than having his coat brushed.
He may not be the suavest kitty around, but Lamar makes up for it with his loving, amiable nature. He’s looking for a new best human buddy or family to call his very own. Maybe that’s you! If so, fill out an adoption application for Lamar today!
